I hurried home from school every day to give Roger, my cousin, his bottle. His parents stayed with my folks.” Bob and Elverda stayed at his sister Jo’s home only a short while. Still in the Marine Corps, Bob had just been transferred to San Francisco when Roger was born in Yakima in May 1947. Bob: “The doctor that delivered Roger made up a real good excuse and made it sound bad so my commanding officer would let me go. I phoned my niece Angeline in the meantime and found out everything was OK.” Bob received emergency leave to visit his newborn son and wife. Later in June, the family was reunited in San Francisco.
