1946-09-00c-Yakima-High-School-postcard.jpg
1946-00-00 Yakima High School, South 7th Avenue, Yakima. Built in 1908, the castle crenellations gave a distinctive look seen in this postcard photo from the 1940s. During World War II, many students left early to enlist, and alumni frequently went directly from graduation into the military. Due to overcrowding, the school offered half-term mid-year graduations for a while resulting in classes like the class of 46 1/2. During Angie's high school years she had ample opportunity to have friends and former classmates in the military. Many years later, Yakima High School was renamed A.C. Davis after the district superintendent from 1913 to 1947 who also had served as the YHS principal from 1908-1913. Years later Angie remarked, "Yakima Senior High. And now they call it Davis after one of the principals. And I don't know why and the.hell they have to do that!" Angie's high school building was demolished in the early 1970s.
